How We Work

We will create a décor YOU’LL love to come home to. This is our single focus. To achieve that goal for your project—whether it's a slipcover, a Roman shade, or the entire décor of your grand room—we apply the following four principles.

Your Vision. Your Persona.

Interior design is about your vision for your space. We listen very carefully to first understand the world within your home. We then tease out of our discussions the persona that you want to create within that space. We then elegantly weave it all together to …

Design Philosophy 1: Your Vision. Your Persona.

Interior design is not about imposing our vision on your home, kitchen, den, or office. To the contrary, we listen very carefully to first understand the world of your home. We then tease out of our discussions the persona that you want to create for a room, your entire home, or your office. We then elegantly weave it all together to create a luxurious and experiential environment with a personality all its own. The result is a space that complements, enhances, and reflects and defines your personal style—who you are.

Whether it is stunning interior design for your pied-a-terre, beachfront home or mountain estate—or something simpler such as the re-creation of an exquisite slipper chair—it is always a journey of collaborations during which we assist you to make decisions that are informed, practical and above all—aesthetic. The result is a home or accent piece that visually communicates your story with quiet sophistication or bold splashes of color and confidence.

Design Philosophy 2: Luxury On Your Terms.

Luxury (noun): “a pleasure out of the ordinary allowed to oneself” “demonstrably superior and pleasingly different” “superlative and stunning in detail” “details obsessed” “intimate and exclusive experiential moment of time, quality and imagination” Ultimate Luxury: Time is the ultimate luxury. Time for oneself. Time for family. Time for friends.
Luxury can mean many things; sensuous textures, sumptuous fabrics and rich woods and timeless styles. Luxury can also mean a living space flooded with natural light and luxuriant greenery. Each of our customers defines “luxury”—through their individualized lens.

Whether you are attracted to one or all of the above meanings, luxury is within reach of everyone… with even a modest budget. Regardless of the scope of the project or its context—our commitment to you remains constant: “We’ll create a décor you’ll love to come home to.”

Design Philosophy 3: The Past informs the future

We believe that designer David Easton got it right when he said that “an appellation of the contemporary is always enriched by an understanding of the past.” We can learn much from old world masters—whether painters, musicians, carvers, or chefs. They lived and embodied their professions. And their labors of love still thrill us centuries later.

Similarly, the insight of Winston Churchill, who admittedly is not the first person one would think of when discussing interior design, is germane to interior design.

Churchill built his career in the House of Commons in London, England. On the night of May 10, 1941, one of the last bombs of the London blitz struck and demolished the House of Commons. Sometime later he commented on the building’s future, and said:

“…we have now to consider whether we should build it up again, and how, and when. We shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us. Having dwelt and served for more than forty years in the late Chamber, and having derived very great pleasure and advantage therefrom, I, naturally, should like to see it restored in all essentials to its old form, convenience and dignity.”

Winston Churchill understood the essence of what our living and work spaces become. A building—be it a home, den, cottage or work space—provides the structure and environment where our lives unfold; a place where we experience life, think, plan, experience triumphs and failures. Therefore, a home, its contents and interior décor provide physical connections to our past—our memories.

Intuitively many people sense that this important connection exists and seek to preserve, restore, and rebuild their interiors, or as Churchill said, they too “like to see it restored in all essentials to its old form, convenience and dignity.” These memories are an essential part of the beauty and greatness of a home. To restore a home, a sofa, or an occasional chair that we are fond of helps preserve the highlights and watershed moments of our lives; and where in the same environment the next generation can experience life and build their special memories.

Therefore, our designs respect these historical influences. We draw from the styles of old world masters.  We reconcile a love of the past with a passion for today’s modern materials and design trends.

It is also true that the only constant in life is change. Relationships blossom. Children grow up. Trends come and go. Interiors wear out (or ‘ugly out”). Therefore, we constantly scan the horizon for new and emerging life trends and design styles, while keeping an eye on past experiences and lessons learned.

At Old World Interiors we love to work with our clients to help them decide how to ‘shape’ their spaces and with the knowledge that over time how they want their spaces to ‘shape’ them; to preserve a home’s familiar, classic and timeless interior design, while at the same time introduce energetic modern elements that make it de jour.

Work. Home. Play. Each of these spaces is a host to unique activities and needs. Our goal is to facilitate a harmonious convergence of these spaces in an imaginative and functional world called “chez vous.” We work to achieve this subtle harmony by careful attention to the emotive elements you want to create in each space. We do this by listening carefully to your vision, as well as to what isn’t said in our discussions.

Design Philosophy 4: Quality and Value First

We know that quality and value are inextricably linked; one cannot exist without the other. As such, whether your project is the interior design of your home, or a slipcover for your settee, we focus on delivery a quality product and service of superb value. Yes, price and budget limitations are important factors. However, we are convinced through experience, that the price of a product or service is relative. For in fact… “Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.”

Traditional Quality. Today's Décor.
