How We Work With You

Slipcover Consultation

Your free in-home consultation with an experienced member of our North Vancouver slipcovering team will help establish your decorating goals and identify what you want to achieve.

Big Picture for Your Slipcovering Needs

We recognize that purchasing customized slipcovers for your home is about more than that individual element.  It is about conveying your personality and style through unique, quality pieces that make a statement.  It is also about creating a seamless and harmonious blend between the old and the new.  Whether we are redesigning an entire room or adding custom slipcovers to your furnishings, we take into consideration the entire look and feel of your home to create something with beauty and balance.

Room/Space Requirements

Once the vision for your project and the feel of your home as a whole has been established, our team turns its attention to the technical aspects of the slipcovering process.  The size and shape of the room, and the room’s current and intended uses will all be carefully considered to ensure that a great style will not mean sacrificing any functionality.

Style of Slipcover

Next, we will assist you in selecting the appropriate style of slipcover for your needs.  There are essentially two main styles – tailored slipcovers (form fitting) and shabby chic slipcovers (loose fitting).  Carefully selecting which style best suits the shape of the furniture, the other elements in the room and your individual style is an essential first step toward a beautiful finished product.  Once this is established, design variations within the chosen style can be considered and selected.  We will guide you toward a style that will express your decorating vision and meet the functional requirements of the room.

Color and Fabric Selection

Many elements will influence the appropriate fabric selection.  For example, the chosen fabric must be opaque enough to hide the original upholstery.  The selected fabric must also have the right properties for the style of slipcover that you have chosen.  The location should be considered, certain fabrics are more resistant to fading and therefore a better choice for areas that receive a lot of direct sunlight.  Will it be used in a high traffic area or are there young children in the home?  If so, fabrics that resist stains or wash easily would be a wise choice.  We will use our expertise to assist you in selecting the right fabric for your unique project.

Pricing Structure

Choice of Fabric

Many elements will affect the price of your project.  Most obvious, perhaps, is the selection of fabric.  Special order fabrics, such as custom European imports can create an incomparable piece of unmatched and memorable quality.  However, beautiful fabrics can also be found to suit a multitude of budgets.

Slipcover Style

A loose fitting, casual approach to slipcovering is often a quick and inexpensive way to transform an older piece of furniture.  Producing a quality form fitting, tailored slipcover can be more time consuming resulting in higher labour costs, but it too is an intriguing option for transforming the dull to dazzling!

Considerations for Fabric Selection

Fabric Care

Certain rooms, such as children’s rooms require a strong, easy care fabric such as cotton.  Other rooms, such as formal dining rooms, benefit aesthetically from a rich elegant fabric like damask or velvet; however the cost of professional cleaning should be taken into consideration when selecting this type of fabric.

Budget

It’s advisable to invest in the best-quality fabric that your budget will allow.  A quality fabric will look better and last longer.  Our experts are happy to provide recommendations on quality, long lasting fabrics that will add beauty to your home for years to come.

Slipcover Trends

Style

Select a tailored slipcover to expose the wooden legs on your furniture rather than hiding them behind flowing skirts.  These clean sleek lines create a modern look and help open up a room.

Seasonality

Create covers for each season!  Changing slipcovers can change the look of a whole room allowing you to customize looks for each season.  Choose a rich deep tone for winter to be basked in the warm glow of the firelight and a fun floral or bright white to sparkle in the sunlight of summer.
